Professional Experience

Lucas Christian

I am a professional software engineer based in San Francisco, California. My present work is an extension of my long-standing interest in communication systems, extending from previous internship stints at both Twilio and Cisco Meraki on their MC (IP Phone) team.

I hail from Georgia Tech, and prior to that, my hometown of Birmingham, Alabama. I began programming in the third grade and have never allowed to slow my desire to learn, explore, and build.

Skillset

I have development experience in most aspects of the web application stack, including backend, database, infrastructure, and frontend (my least favorite). I am also familiar with embedded devices.

  • I work comfortably in Java and C. I am also a Rubyist. (while I could list off any number of other languages I have used over the course of my career, I consider this a pointless exercise)
  • I am experienced with Amazon Web Services. My personal cloud infrastructure leans heavily on EC2, S3, and Route 53.
  • I am familiar with Opscode Chef, and use it to manage my personal infrastructure. I have previously developed a cookbook.
  • I am intimately familiar with SIP and the adjacent VoIP protocols, which is my day job.
  • You'll find plenty Ubiquiti and/or Meraki gear in any home I occupy or business that I manage, including multi-AP WiFi systems and BGP-routed site-to-site VPN meshes. You may also find small contributions of mine in the firmware of these devices.

Lucasec Technologies

Lucasec Technologies is the trade name for my personal consulting and integration work. Lucasec Technologies comprises myself, and several collaborators and partners I work with on a regular basis. Because this work is secondary to my primary role, I pursue a limited number of projects every year, with emphasis on delivering professional end-results that are carefully designed to be maintainable for years to come. I rarely work on short time frames.
